This is sad Monday indeed...no miracle. Not even a good holiday movie to invoke any sort of feeling. I won't complain too much being "Gremlins" was on twice in a row this weekend on AMC. What more could you ask for? Possibly "Diehard" but ...
No it's sad because a writer writes and although I have been writing very minimally I have not posted here since October. With so much to say how can one maintain fresh if he doesn't vent? Not that anyone reads this but I have high hopes so I make the journey forward, change the format and fight the good fight.
This is three glasses of non-oaked chardonnay. Toad Hollow. Yesterday it was Labatts Blue instead of Pabst Blue Ribbon. For shit sake is there anyone listening?
Well on with it...the whole realms of unreality thing that is....
Hess gets a job working of The New Yorker. It's a fluke...a major string pulled for him and when he shows up wearing jeans and a Slayer t-shirt is immediately cast off to the lepers but being the string was pulled by a major contributor to certain high society charities (Hess' father) he is allowed passage but with a sneary eye of contempt forever fixed upon his every smoke break. Well Hess is a good writer. Born with it kind. Not some second year Ivy Leaguer with pull plagiarizing his or her way through some post 101 classical English Writing course with high hopes for publishing a novel before graduating because he or she feels entitled to it because of mother or fathers achievements. He smokes. He drinks (and even 30 yr old scotch if need be) and he writes in between.
This is an idea I have been working on for a few years now. At first it was a novel idea and now I am leaning towards a screenplay but have not yet decided on that. I have a great cast of characters built for a great story. Originally these said characters where a group of young, preppy, anarchists attending a stuffy school told through a series of poems I had finished a few years back. Well never wanting to let go of them I revived them in a soon to be finished short story where they play a minor yet important role. As it goes...great ideas sometimes just need to gestate a bit. It was combining certain elements and certain ideas from certain short stories and certain poems and certain screenplays and certain attributes about the nature of these characters that really drove it home for me to meet these guys together and viola' I have a story...a movie (or novel but I am undecided as of date).
In the meantime I will keep me posted...and of course you.
